Stuff I Like

Sometimes I come across something I really like (Not real often–I’m pretty ‘glass is half empty.’) and I want to tell the world. If it makes this list, I really, really like it. My qualifications for making these recommendations? I have been house-broken since 1979, have successfully completed 3,600 heart beats in the last hour, and received the coveted Cleanest Camper award in 1996.

My first gemstone excavation kit. Sally got this for her birthday and it was one of the most exciting things she’s ever owned. If your kid is into science, digging up treasure, jewels or all of the above, this is an awesome purchase. Kidcore Toys.

Toys Go Out by Emily Jenkins. Sally is in love with the idea of reading chapter books. But most are a little old, subject-wise, for a 3-year-old. Jenkins tells a fantastic story of toys who come to life when their little girl isn’t around. Sally loves it because the toys have silly adventures. I love it because the toys have silly adventures, it’s written well, and we both laughed out loud at numerous scenes. A great first chapter book. I can see kids up to around age 7 really enjoying this one. There are two more books in the series, Toy Dance Party and Toys Come Home, which is brand new (2011).

Bertolli frozen dinners. Seriously delicious, perfectly portioned pasta meals with multiple servings of veggies, in a bag. Dump into skillet for nine minutes and eat. That’s my kind of cooking.

Dear Exile by Hilary Liftin. Just possibly my favorite book. I feel like it’s me, except a funnier, wittier, skinnier me. Also, Candy and Me: A Love Story by Hilary Liftin.

The Old Spice Man. If he and Matt Damon simultaneously showed up at my door, they’d have to do a dance-off for me. I couldn’t pick.

Aaaarrgghh! Spider! If you read my spider post you know why this book is important in our house. It’s a story from the spider’s point of view, and it turns out she just wants to be your family’s pet. Very sweet. Sally loves this book.

  1. I’ve been looking for a good book, maybe I’ll pick up “Toys Go Out”. :)

  2. Love your blog! I’m just getting mine up and running – a complete novice, so I pulled yours off the Freshly Pressed list to see how this whole thing works. I laughed out loud when I realized that was a tangerine in the picture! Thanks for the chuckle, I’ll be back for more.

  3. I am a new blogger also. I love kid stories,
funny things they say etc. I am a grandma and
I loved taking care of my grnadkids two days
a week when they were younger. Now they
are in school and I miss them so much.
But, summer is coming and I will have them
2 or more days a week. They help keep
    me feeling young.

  4. :) Tuesday’s with Morrie to suggest is not a bad for you to read.. the book itself is cool and it somehow touches our hearts to the point that it is like we’re the main characters of the story. (=

  5. Do you watch Chuck? The Old Spice Man was in it this week! Don’t know if he has a recurring role or a cameo. Those are the only commercials I will stop my DVR to watch.
